Wheat

Worldwide cultivated several species and varieties of wheat on an area of over 2.2 billion acres. The main producing countries are China, India, USA, Russia, France, Canada, Germany, Turkey, Australia, etc. The production of the 2003 -2004 (according to the FAO) reached 630 million tons.
In Greece, the cultivation of wheat (Average 2003 -2005), covers an area of approximately 8.5 million hectares, representing 21.5% of the total cultivated area of the country. Cultivated mainly durum wheat (Triticum durum) and to a lesser extent soft (Triticum aestivum).

Durum wheat
